Cellist Michal Shein and Classical Guitarist Adam Levin

Paul Matisse's Kalliroscopoe Gallery, Groton MA

The combination of cello and guitar lends itself so well to spectacular and diverse music. It is such a versatile ensemble, able to cover so many styles and genres. The lyrical and human voice of the cello is complemented fantastically by the rich timbre of the guitar.

The repertoire choices for this type of ensemble is not extremely large within the classical music canon but the duo has had the privilege to work closely with guitarist and arranger Gregg Nestor, who has arranged new versions of classical musics gems from Baroque sonatas, romantic era repertoire, to more contemporary compositions such as by Ukranian composer Valentin Silvestrov. Spanish music is part of the identity of the classical guitar, which has prompted the duo to put their own interpretative stamp on Manuel De Falla's famous Siete Canciones Populares Españolas.

The Duo has recently had the honor of working closely with stellar composers such as Grammy-nominated composer Andrea Casarrubios, performing a new arrangements of her beautifully concieved piece "Mensajes del Agua." Mostly recently, the duo collaborated with Mexican composer Jose Elizondo, recording a new version of his highly performed "Danzas Latinoamericanas," soon to be available on YouTube.
